Thomas P. Kay, President
Concentrating Solar Power Utility, Inc.

Dear Mr. Kay,

I am pleased to write this letter of support to endorse your joint NYSERDA proposal with RPI Professors on new materials and designs to advance solar magnetohydrodyanmics (Solar MHD). With so much effort across the country and around the world working on solid state semiconducting approaches to convert solar energy, your proposal and your company’s interest in magnetohydrodyamics is truly novel and innovative. The revolutionary increases in solar energy conversion efficiency in a system with no moving parts makes magnetohydrodynamics an especially attractive alternative to conventional technologies and will enable an increase in system efficiency to near 70%. Combined with CSPU’s emerging intellectual property portfolio, the timing is right for your success as a major renewable energy manufacturing center here in New York State.

The New York State Center for Future Energy Systems (CFES) is funded by the New York State Office of Science, Technology, and Innovation. CFES conducts fundamental and applied research to accelerate the development of new energy materials, devices and systems. Our mission is to work with New York State industry in the energy sector to develop and apply advanced energy technologies in renewable energy, energy conversion, storage and distribution, as well as efficient energy utilization. This mission is in complete synergy with your proposed research and development effort, and we are here to support your joint effort with Professors Yoav Peles and Doug Chrisey.

If there is anything else we can do to help you at this proposal preparation stage, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,
Jian Sun, PhD
